ShoEi Foods (U.S.A.), Inc. (SUSA)
ShoEi Foods (U.S.A.), Inc. (SUSA) was established in Portland, Oregon in February 1985 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Shoei Foods Corporation with the primary purposes to purchase products for the Japan market. Later, after acquiring a prune orchard in 1988 in California, SUSA moved to Olivehurst (formerly known as Marysville), California. SUSA began processing prunes at a plant built in 1990 in Olivehurst. In 2008, SUSA and Sunsweet Growers, Inc., the world’s largest prune vendor, formed a 50-50 alliance to transfer SUSA’s exclusive proprietary process of packaging prunes without preservatives (and without the previous over cooking retort system) while utilizing the patented Sunsweet pitting process. This jointly run plant, called the Japan Room, is in a separate section of the massive Sunsweet plant in Yuba City California. In 2009, SUSA re-made the old prune facility into an ultra-modern walnut shelling and processing facility for 30,000,000 kilos of walnuts coming from thousands of acres contracted with growers. SUSA also has the latest high-tech equipment of lasers, cameras, and X-rays to remove any defects or foreign material such as shell. SUSA was the first walnut company worldwide to receive the global certification BRC for food safety and quality.
